Gas Cylinder Costs Increase

The price of LPG cylinders in India has been raised again, with domestic cylinders up by ₹60 and commercial cylinders by ₹115, reflecting rising global energy costs and uncertainties due to the Middle-East conflict; while non-subsidised users face higher bills across cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, the over 10 crore Ujjwala connections for low-income households remain unaffected, and the government assures sufficient LPG and fuel supplies with measures in place to prevent shortages.

Starting March 7, 2026, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has gone up by ₹60, while commercial cylinders for hotels and restaurants have risen by ₹115, according to the Indian Oil Corporation. For households using non-subsidised cylinders, the new price in Delhi is ₹913 for a 14.2-kg cylinder, while commercial 19-kg cylinders now cost ₹1,883. Prices vary by city, with Mumbai at ₹912.5 (domestic) and ₹1,835 (commercial), Kolkata at ₹939 and ₹1,990, and Chennai at ₹928.5 and ₹2,043.5 respectively.

This is the second price increase in 11 months; last April, domestic cylinders had gone up by ₹50. Subsidised LPG under the Ujjwala scheme remains unchanged. The hike comes as energy costs rise due to tensions in the Middle East. The government has instructed refineries to boost LPG production to ensure steady supply, and officials confirm that India has sufficient stocks of crude oil and petroleum products to meet demand.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri reassured consumers that there is no shortage of energy, and IndianOil emphasized that fuel distribution is normal, urging citizens to rely only on official information and avoid panic buying.
