The United States has issued a temporary 30-day waiver allowing Indian refiners to continue purchasing Russian crude oil, easing immediate pressure on India’s energy supply amid disruptions in West Asia.

The waiver, issued by the U.S. Treasury, is aimed at preventing sudden supply shocks in global energy markets while allowing cargoes already in transit to reach Indian buyers. The decision comes as tensions in West Asia threaten oil supply chains and shipping routes, raising concerns about price volatility and availability.
India has emerged as one of the largest buyers of discounted Russian crude since the Ukraine war, helping refiners secure cheaper supplies while stabilising domestic fuel prices. Analysts say the temporary exemption offers short-term relief to Indian refiners as geopolitical tensions reshape global oil trade flows.
