Exporters in Tiruppur expect garment shipments to the United States to double to Rs 30,000 crore over the next three years, following the recently signed trade deal between India and the US.

The textile hub, located around 450 km west of Chennai, is also likely to see a major surge in employment during this period, according to industry leaders.
Major Boost for Exports
Tiruppur Exporters’ Association president K M Subramanian said garment exports from Tamil Nadu currently stand at around Rs 15,000 crore. With the new agreement in place, that figure is expected to rise sharply.
“The exports are projected to double to Rs 30,000 crore over the next three years,” he said, adding that the deal would significantly strengthen Tiruppur’s position in the global apparel market.
Job Creation to Accelerate
Subramanian, who is also the founder-chairman of K M Knitwear Pvt Ltd, said the growth in exports would translate into large-scale job creation. At present, the garment industry in Tiruppur employs nearly 10 lakh people.
“Another five lakh jobs are expected to be added over the next three to five years due to increased demand,” he said.
Growth Impact in the Near Term
Welcoming the India-US deal, Subramanian said its impact would begin to show within the next three months.
“This agreement is extremely important for Tiruppur. It will drive strong growth over the next five years. Once the initial phase passes, we will see a steady rise in exports of India-made garments from Tamil Nadu,” he said, adding that Tiruppur’s growth trajectory would move sharply upward.
More Orders from the US
Echoing similar views, M Rathinasamy, founder of Tiruppur-based Starrlight Exporters, said the deal would result in a higher volume of orders from US buyers.
He noted that the agreement would strengthen trade ties and create new opportunities for garment manufacturers across Tamil Nadu, with Tiruppur emerging as a key beneficiary.
