Entrepreneur Anjana Shaji has made a mark in the world of embroidery with her brand One Hand Embroidery, where every piece is crafted using only one hand. She specializes in children’s dresses, t-shirts, kurtis, and cotton shirts, customizing each piece personally and delivering her work to customers across India and abroad.
Anjana, who completed her MSW, discovered embroidery during a period of personal and professional challenges. “I struggled to find a job, and embroidery became a way forward,” she said. Her unique skill and creativity allowed her to build a brand that now operates largely online through social media platforms.

The idea for the brand came when Anjana was inspired by a child’s outfit. She experimented on an old cloth and realized she could create intricate designs with just one hand. Her husband, Alwin, suggested the name One Hand Embroidery and helped launch the social media page. The first video shoot for the page was supported by family members, which helped the brand gain early attention.
As orders increased, Anjana trained helpers for stitching while continuing to oversee design and final quality. “Every piece carries its own excitement, and the process is highly personalized,” she said.
Born with limited use of her left hand, Anjana has mastered delicate embroidery techniques, threading needles and creating designs with precision. Her work has inspired many, showing how determination and skill can overcome physical limitations.
The brand gained further visibility when her work went viral online, leading to invitations to participate in events and programs. In addition to embroidery, Anjana practices karate, cycling, swimming, and driving, with ambitions such as achieving a black belt in karate.
Anjana Shaji’s journey from a challenging start to a successful online business demonstrates how innovation, resilience, and a personal touch can turn a simple craft into a growing brand.
