Delhi is set to welcome a new river cruise service on the Yamuna River, expected to launch in February 2026. The cruise, part of the Delhi government’s riverfront tourism and recreation initiative, will operate along a 6–7 km stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore, the project aims to offer a sustainable and eco-friendly tourism experience while enhancing connectivity along the river.

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra told ANI that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will inaugurate the service. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Central Government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and the Delhi Government to facilitate the project. The cruise vessels will feature hybrid engines and adhere to international safety standards.
The service will include a 40-seater luxury cruise with air-conditioned seating, offering hour-long round trips. It is part of a broader plan to connect residents with the Yamuna and develop the river as a hub for eco-friendly tourism. Upstream of Wazirabad, the focus is on accessibility and recreation, while downstream efforts include sewage treatment systems to ensure clean water flows in the river.
The project also incorporates safety and commuter convenience. The vessels will carry life jackets and public announcement systems, while the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has installed two floating jetties at Sonia Vihar, each with a 50-passenger capacity. Additional on-shore amenities, including parking, recreational spaces, and basic facilities, are planned to enhance the overall experience.
The cruise is part of a larger vision to develop National Waterway 110 (NW-110), which stretches 1,080 km from Jagatpur in Delhi to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, with electric-solar hybrid boats envisioned for sustainable tourism along the corridor.
