Indian Railways has floated a tender for the construction of a halt station at Nedumbassery, situated close to Cochin International Airport in Kerala, marking a key step toward improved rail access for air travellers. The project, announced by the Railways’ Gati Shakti division, carries an estimated cost of ₹7.56 crore, with the deadline for bid submission set for February 5, 2026.

Under the tender, the successful contractor will be responsible for building the station within nine months, including a station building, 600-metre platforms on either side, a pedestrian overpass with a lift, and parking facilities to support passenger convenience and safety.
Once completed, the new Nedumbassery halt station, positioned between Angamaly and Chowwara stations, will be the first railway station in Kerala located adjacent to an airport, reducing the need for travellers to disembark at Aluva, Angamaly or Ernakulam and shift to road transport for airport access.
Railway officials and passenger groups believe the project will transform Nedumbassery into a multi-modal transport hub, although stakeholders note that last-mile connectivity solutions such as shuttle buses or link services from Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) or Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) will be crucial to maximising the station’s utility.
The development follows years of local demand and earlier planning, with previous proposals and site inspections indicating strong support for integrating rail travel with Kochi’s airport infrastructure to boost commuter convenience and regional mobility.
