Amid escalating unrest in Iran, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss the situation, according to a post on Jaishankar’s X account.

“Received a call from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. We discussed the evolving situation in and around Iran,” Jaishankar wrote.
The call followed an advisory from the Indian Embassy in Iran urging all Indian nationals—including students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists—to leave the country using available means, including commercial flights. The warning comes as the death toll from nationwide protests against the Khamenei government reached 2,500.
The advisory also asked Indian citizens to keep travel and identity documents, such as passports and IDs, readily available and to contact the embassy for assistance. It stressed caution, advising Indians and Persons of Indian Origin to avoid protest areas, stay in contact with the embassy, and monitor local media for updates.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Jaishankar to initiate evacuation measures for Kashmiri students stranded in Iran amid the worsening security situation.
The protests, sparked by rising inflation and the falling value of the Iranian currency, have entered their 20th day and spread to more than 280 locations, resulting in deadly clashes and a rapidly rising death toll.
Separately, US President Donald Trump encouraged protesters to take action against Iranian institutions, saying help was on the way, while the US advised some personnel to evacuate the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar as a precaution. The advisory followed Iran’s warning to neighboring countries hosting US military installations, threatening attacks if the US targets Iranian territory.
