The Union Budget 2026-27 of India is confirmed to be presented in Parliament on Sunday, February 1, 2026, with the budget session scheduled to begin on January 28, 2026 and continue through early April. The dates were finalised ahead of the annual financial statement, reaffirming the government’s preference for early-year budget planning.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that both Houses of Parliament will be summoned from January 28, when the President will address a joint sitting, marking the start of the first budget session of the year. The session is expected to span two phases, including debates on key economic proposals and legislative business.
Traditionally, the Union Budget has been tabled on February 1 in recent years, a practice that aligns the budgetary timeline with the upcoming financial year beginning April 1. This year’s presentation will again fall on the same date despite it being a Sunday, a rare scheduling occurrence that the government appears poised to maintain for consistency in fiscal operations.
The Economic Survey, a precursor to the Budget that reviews economic performance and outlook, is also expected to be presented during the session shortly before the Budget date.
As the preparation for Budget 2026 intensifies, markets, policymakers and stakeholders will closely watch key announcements in taxation, government spending and reform measures that shape India’s economy for the coming fiscal year.
