Cochin International Airport (CIAL) has once again solidified its position as Kerala’s leading airport by handling over 10 million passengers for the third consecutive year. Between January and December 2025, the airport recorded a total of 1.15 crore passengers, marking a 4.85% growth compared to 1.09 crore passengers in 2024. This increase of roughly 5.33 lakh passengers highlights the airport’s consistent performance and balanced growth across both domestic and international travel.

Peak Traffic Months Highlight Robust Operations
May 2025 emerged as the busiest month, with passenger traffic surpassing 11.07 lakh. Other strong months included January and December, with 10.44 lakh and 10.06 lakh passengers respectively. These figures demonstrate the airport’s ability to maintain high traffic volumes throughout the year.
Aircraft Movements and Operational Efficiency
In terms of aircraft movements, CIAL recorded 74,689 takeoffs and landings in 2025, slightly lower than 75,074 in 2024. The slight reduction was attributed to certain airlines scaling back services. Despite this, passenger traffic continued to grow, reflecting higher load factors and improved operational efficiency.
CIAL 2.0 Driving Passenger Experience
Managing Director S Suhas credited the sustained growth to CIAL 2.0, the airport’s transformation initiative focused on enhancing the passenger experience. The project introduced improvements in terminal transit, streamlined processing through digitized systems, and upgraded passenger amenities. Together, these measures increased transit efficiency and elevated overall passenger satisfaction.
Future Upgrades and Digitisation
As part of its ongoing modernization, CIAL is set to introduce full-body scanners, strengthening both digitization and security measures. These upgrades are part of the airport’s commitment to providing a safe, smooth, and technologically advanced travel experience.
