2025 has been a milestone year for Reliance Jio, highlighted by record-breaking subscriber growth, global leadership in fixed wireless access (FWA), strategic technology partnerships, major AI initiatives, and the announcement of the highly anticipated IPO.

Subscriber Growth and 5G Leadership
Jio reinforced its dominance in India’s telecom sector while gaining international recognition for its FWA services. In September 2025, the company crossed 500 million subscribers, becoming the world’s largest mobile data network by traffic volume. By October 31, total users reached 509.3 million, with over 27 million added in the first ten months.
The expansion of Jio’s True 5G network has been rapid, now accounting for around 50% of total wireless data traffic. Per-user monthly data consumption has risen from 32.3 GB in January to 38.7 GB, driven by 234 million users migrating to 5G.
Global FWA Leadership
Jio AirFiber, the company’s 5G and UBR-based Fixed Wireless Access service, became the world’s largest FWA network in July 2025, surpassing T-Mobile. The service now supports over 10 million users with approximately 1 million new home connections each month. Its smart set-top box integrates gaming, entertainment, and cloud services. Total quarterly data traffic increased by 11.9 exabytes, reaching 162 exabytes in the first nine months of 2025.
5G Expansion and Rural Connectivity
Jio has doubled pan-India 5G traffic and expanded rural sites by 2.2 times. Its 5G speeds are 1.4 times faster than competitors, and LTE productivity is three times higher. Indigenous innovations include a complete 5G and UBR FWA stack, 3,400+ patents filed across 5G–6G technologies, and a proprietary OSS/BSS stack ready for export. Key proprietary solutions include spectrum-free AirFiber, URSP-based slicing for secure 5G, and cloud-native consumer platforms like JioGames, JioAICloud, and JioPC.
Strategic Technology Partnerships
Jio strengthened its global collaborations with major tech players:
- SpaceX: Partnered to bring Starlink satellite internet to rural India.
- Meta & Google: Announced a ₹855 crore joint venture with Meta for enterprise AI solutions, with Reliance holding 70% stake.
- Microsoft: Continued collaboration for cloud and AI integration.
AI and Cloud Initiatives
Jio introduced advanced AI services, including an 18-month free subscription to Google Gemini 3 Pro for eligible 5G users. Reliance Intelligence, a new subsidiary, focuses on developing large language models and gigawatt-scale AI-ready green data centers. AI-focused educational programs aim to upskill India’s workforce.
IPO Announcement
At the 48th RIL AGM, Jio officially announced its planned IPO for the first half of 2026, positioning it as one of India’s largest-ever public offerings and a major opportunity for investors.
National and Social Impact
Jio demonstrated its technological capabilities on a massive scale at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, handling 20 million voice calls and 400 million data requests in a single day. The network supported over 660 million devotees across 45 days in a high-density 40 sq. km area, achieving 99.9% uptime.
Jio also extended connectivity to extreme environments like Siachen, supporting military personnel and local communities in temperatures as low as -50°C. In August 2025, the company provided flood relief for customers in J&K, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, ensuring uninterrupted communication during emergencies.
Strategic Vision
Reliance Jio continues to drive India’s digital transformation through 5G, AI, and indigenous innovation. The company is entering Phase 2 of “Jiotisation,” focusing on scale, speed, and smart technology, reinforcing its role as a key player in India’s technology ecosystem.
