Bogibeel Bridge, India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge, marked its seventh anniversary on December 25, 2025, celebrating years of seamless connectivity across the mighty Brahmaputra River in Assam. The 4.94-kilometre structure links Dibrugarh district on the southern bank with Dhemaji district on the northern bank, significantly reducing travel times for both road and rail commuters while bolstering regional mobility and economic activity.

Inaugurated on December 25, 2018, the bridge has become a vital infrastructural asset for the northeastern states, enhancing transport efficiency for civilians and defence logistics alike. Its dual-deck design carries a three-lane road on the upper deck and double broad-gauge railway tracks on the lower deck, combining passenger, freight and military movement in one strategic corridor.
Over seven years, Bogibeel has transformed regional travel, what once took hours by ferry or long road detours can now be crossed in minutes, improving access between upper Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. Residents and commuters on both banks have celebrated the bridge’s impact on daily life, trade and emergency connectivity.
Built at an estimated cost of around ₹5,900 crore and constructed with welded steel-concrete design standards, the bridge also plays a key role in national security by facilitating rapid movement of defence equipment toward the eastern frontier.
As Bogibeel completes seven years of service, officials describe it not just as engineering excellence but as a lifeline for the Northeast’s socio-economic integration and development.
