After decades of planning, Navi Mumbai International Airport is ready to start commercial operations from Thursday. The new airport is expected to cut travel times, attract investments, and give a boost to tourism in the region.

Smooth Takeoff for the First Day
The City and Industrial Development Corporation, CIDCO, the agency behind the project, announced that the airport will handle 30 air traffic movements on its opening day, including arrivals and departures.
Reducing Pressure on Mumbai Airport
The launch is set to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport while creating a stronger multi-airport system for the region, improving overall efficiency and connectivity.
A Landmark in Infrastructure
Vijay Singhal, CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director, called the airport a symbol of the government’s long-term commitment to infrastructure, inclusive growth, and global connectivity. He described the project as a milestone that reflects India’s vision for futuristic infrastructure.
Design That Tells a Story
The airport’s lotus-inspired terminal, developed by the Adani Group and NMIAL, combines sustainability with innovation. Its design is intended to reflect India’s cultural ethos while serving as a modern architectural icon.
Driving Regional Growth
Operations at the airport are expected to spur economic activity, benefiting residents in Navi Mumbai as well as nearby cities including Pune, Thane, Panvel, Raigad, and the Konkan region.
Seamless Connectivity
A key feature of the airport is its multimodal connectivity. Passengers will have access via the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, national highways, suburban rail, and metro corridors, ensuring smooth travel to and from the airport.
First Flights to Mark the Launch
Major carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air will operate on the first day. IndiGo flight 6E 460 from Bengaluru will arrive at 8 am, while flight 6E 882 to Hyderabad will mark the airport’s first departure at 8.40 am.
