IndiGo’s nationwide disruption has now stretched into its sixth day, leaving thousands of travellers stuck with cancelled flights, missed connections, and rising irritation. Since it’s the country’s biggest airline, the impact has spilled over into the entire market, pushing fares up and making travel even tougher for passengers across India.

By Sunday, 7 December, the airline had cancelled 650 flights. IndiGo says the situation is improving and that 137 of its 138 airport stations are back to operating at full capacity.
Who can get a refund
IndiGo told passengers on 7 December that anyone with bookings scheduled between 5 and 15 December 2025 can claim a full refund for cancelled or rescheduled flights.
DGCA rules are straightforward here: if a delay or cancellation is the airline’s fault, you’re entitled to either your money back or a free rebooking.
How to claim your refund
Here’s how to file your claim if your IndiGo flight was cancelled or delayed:
- Open IndiGo’s website or app and head to Manage Booking. Enter your PNR or booking reference plus your last name to view your flight status.
- If the airline has cancelled the flight, you can choose between a full refund or a free rebooking on the next available option. For domestic flights delayed beyond six hours, you can either take an alternate flight within that window or ask for a refund.
- Once you know what you want to do, go to IndiGo’s refund page, select Cancellation / Refund for Cancelled Flight, enter your PNR, email and passenger details, and submit the request.
How the refund is paid
If you paid online, the amount goes back to the same card or payment method, usually within five to seven working days.
If you paid in cash, you’ll need to visit the same airport ticket counter where you originally booked. Carry your ticket and a valid ID so they can process the refund.
For bookings made through travel agents or online portals, the refund has to be issued by that agent or platform once you raise the request.
Refunds issued so far
According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, IndiGo has already released refunds worth ₹610 crore to passengers affected by the cancellations and delays. The airline has also reunited about 3,000 lost bags with their owners as of Saturday, as reported earlier by Mint.
This follows the government’s directive asking IndiGo to wrap up all refund processing for cancelled flights by Sunday evening and deliver any separated baggage to passengers’ chosen addresses within the next two days.
