Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the government is preparing to introduce a new ride-hailing mobility platform called Bharat Taxi, built to reduce the dependence of the country’s commercial drivers on private aggregators. In his written reply to the Lok Sabha, he explained that the app will be operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, a multi-state cooperative society registered under the MSCS Act 2002 on June 6, 2025.
He noted that the plan is to create a cooperative-driven digital mobility system that gives drivers more freedom and control instead of keeping them tied to private companies. According to him, the Bharat Taxi app will come with simple ride-booking tools, upfront and transparent fares, vehicle tracking, multilingual interface options, and round-the-clock customer support to make the service accessible for all. It will also include verified onboarding, security features, inclusive mobility provisions, and technology-based assistance aimed at improving safety for citizens.

Since the platform follows a zero-commission model, drivers will retain the entire fare from every ride. The earnings of the cooperative society will also be shared directly with the drivers. Shah added that the transparent pricing structure is expected to help both passengers and drivers equally.
