A joint venture led by Reliance Industries will invest $11 billion over the next five years to develop 1 gigawatt of AI data capacity in Andhra Pradesh, according to the companies and the state government.

The venture, named Digital Connexion, also includes Canadian multinational Brookfield Corporation and U.S.-based real estate investment trust Digital Realty. It plans to build an AI-focused data centre campus spanning 400 acres in Visakhapatnam.
This move follows Google’s announcement in October to develop AI data centre capacity in Visakhapatnam over five years, which will be the company’s largest AI hub outside the United States.
The global AI boom, which demands immense computing power, has driven a surge in investments and rapid expansion of data centres worldwide.
According to real estate consultancy Colliers, India’s data centre capacity is expected to more than triple, reaching 4.5 gigawatts by 2030 from current levels.
Last week, Indian IT giant TCS revealed a partnership with private equity firm TPG to invest $2 billion in a joint venture aimed at building AI data centres, highlighting the increasing momentum in India’s AI infrastructure sector.
