Bajaj Auto on Wednesday expanded its electric three-wheeler portfolio with the nationwide launch of the Riki e-rickshaw and e-cart, following successful pilot projects in four cities.

The company plans to introduce the Riki range in 25 cities, aiming to capture a larger share of India’s rapidly growing e-rickshaw market.

Bajaj Riki E-Rickshaw Launch

Samardeep Subandh, President of Bajaj Auto Ltd’s Intracity Business Unit, told CNBC-TV18 that monthly e-rickshaw sales have jumped from 10,000–12,000 units to nearly 45,000 units, now accounting for 38% of the country’s three-wheeler market. Despite over 500 e-rickshaw brands in India, Bajaj Auto secured a 4–5% market share during its pilot phase.

The first model in the new P40 series, the Bajaj Riki P4005, is priced at ₹1.91 lakh (ex-showroom). The main Riki e-rickshaw, costing ₹1.9 lakh (ex-showroom), delivers a 149 km range, the highest in the segment. It supports a full charge in four hours and comes with topple-free suspension, higher torque, improved gradeability, hill-hold assist, and hydraulic brakes. Bajaj Auto also claims it offers the lowest total cost of ownership in the segment.

The company provides a three-year or 60,000 km warranty covering both the vehicle and its LFP battery. The Riki e-cart, priced at ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom), offers 20–25% more loading space than competing models
