A high-profile visit this week saw Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, touch down in Seoul along with his eldest son Akash, marking their first joint trip to Korea. The purpose: a major business meeting with Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong, aimed at exploring deep collaboration across cutting-edge sectors.

Discussions spanned next-generation technologies: from 6G network equipment and AI data-centre infrastructure to semiconductors, battery storage, and advanced display/extended-reality hardware. As part of the visit, Ambani toured Samsung’s Giheung and Hwaseong plants, the heart of its semiconductor and foundry operations, gaining firsthand exposure to cutting-edge chipmaking, XR and display technologies.

For Reliance, which is already building large-scale AI and data-centre projects in India, the talks signal an intent to integrate Korean semiconductor and battery strengths with India’s vast digital growth ambitions. Samsung, for its part, may leverage India’s scale and upcoming 6G rollout to re-expand its telecom equipment footprint. The partnership, if formalised, could significantly reshape the technology and telecom landscape across Asia.
