The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has allocated land parcels to 20 companies on a 99-year lease at Varapatti in Coimbatore district. This move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the defence manufacturing sector and promote industrial growth in the region.

Support for Startups
In addition to land allocation, TIDCO plans to construct buildings on 10.5 acres of land at Varapatti. These facilities will be made available on rent to startup companies, providing them with a supportive environment to develop and expand their operations, according to V Vinayagam, senior vice-president at the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC).
Establishing a Defence Manufacturing Hub
Last year, the Coimbatore district administration acquired 364.20 acres of land at Varapatti and handed it over to TIDCO for the development of the defence industrial park. The 20 private firms allocated land will establish their units within the park, producing products related to defence manufacturing.
Expanding Aerospace and Defence Initiatives
Vinayagam highlighted that Sulur is emerging as a key defence manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu. The state also plans to set up an aerospace and defence park near the Sulur Air Force Station, which is expected to further boost the region’s defence industry and related sectors.
