The central government has approved seven new projects worth ₹5532 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, marking another major step toward strengthening local electronics production in India. Five projects will come up in Tamil Nadu, while Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh will host one each.

Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the projects in New Delhi, explaining that private companies will drive the investments. Under the scheme, firms are eligible for 1 to 10 percent of their annual production value as incentives for up to six years, depending on the component category and stage of operation.
Among the biggest investors is Mysuru-based Kaynes Circuits India Pvt. Ltd., which plans to invest ₹3280 crore in new facilities in Chennai and Thoothukudi for printed circuit boards, camera module subassemblies, and laminates. Nearly 87 percent of the investment will go into PCBs and laminates.
Minister Vaishnaw said that materials like polypropylene films and copper laminates are currently imported, and the new plants will help fully meet domestic demand. The projects are expected to generate ₹44406 crore worth of production and create over 5000 new jobs.
Hosur-based Ascent Circuits Pvt. Ltd. will also set up a facility in Tamil Nadu with an investment of ₹991 crore for printed circuit boards. Gurugram-based SRF Ltd. will establish its unit in Madhya Pradesh, while Chennai-based Syrma Strategic Electronics Pvt. Ltd. will operate in Andhra Pradesh.
The government has already issued approval letters within two weeks of clearance. IT Secretary S. Krishnan said the focus is on getting these units operational quickly to enhance domestic value addition in electronics manufacturing.
Pankaj Mohindroo, chairperson of the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association, said the new projects represent a strong step forward for India’s electronics ecosystem. He added that building local design capabilities will be crucial in the coming years to make India a complete global manufacturing hub.
