Zoho Corporation is entering the consumer payments space with Zoho Pay, a new app designed to let users send money, pay bills, and make quick transfers directly within its chat platform, Arattai. The goal is to make transactions as seamless as having a conversation.
Payments Integrated Within Arattai
Zoho Pay is being tested internally and will soon be available both as a standalone app and as a feature within Arattai. Users will be able to send money to friends or pay for services without leaving the chat interface. Arattai already supports messaging, calls, and file sharing, and Zoho Pay adds payments to this suite, creating an all-in-one communication and payment platform.
Sivaramakrishnan Iswaran, Zoho’s head of finance, said, “Zoho Pay is designed to offer a smooth, secure, and integrated payment experience, enabling users to transact without switching apps.”
Zoho Steps Into the Consumer Fintech Market
While Zoho has prior experience in payments—having launched Zoho Payments in August 2024 for businesses—Zoho Pay targets individuals, families, and small businesses. The app aims to provide a simple, secure way to handle money within a platform users already know.
Iswaran added, “Our approach to fintech is incremental. We’re starting with payments and will gradually expand into other financial services, staying true to Zoho’s focus on organic growth.”
Competing in India’s Digital Payments Space
India’s digital payments market already features major players like Google Pay and PhonePe. Zoho hopes to leverage its existing user base and trusted brand reputation to carve a niche for Zoho Pay in this competitive landscape. With this move, Zoho positions itself as a versatile fintech player, combining communication and payments in a single platform to simplify everyday transactions.
