Indian Railways is rapidly becoming a global supplier of railway equipment, including bogies, coaches, locomotives, and propulsion systems, under the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative, according to the Railway Ministry. The ministry highlighted that exports now span more than 16 countries, reflecting India’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

Export Highlights
The ministry noted several key international shipments:
- Metro coaches exported to Australia and Canada
- Bogies sent to the UK, Saudi Arabia, France, and Australia
- Propulsion systems delivered to France, Mexico, Romania, Spain, Germany, and Italy
- Passenger coaches exported to Mozambique, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka
- Locomotives shipped to Mozambique, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the Republic of Guinea
Milestone Export from Marhowra
In June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first locomotive exported from the Marhowra Locomotive Manufacturing Plant in Bihar to the Republic of Guinea. So far, six locomotives from Marhowra have been successfully exported, and a second strategic order has been secured, totaling approximately 150 Evolution Series locomotives for African markets.
Advanced Engineering and Performance
These 4,500 HP Evolution Series locomotives are noted for fuel efficiency and consistent performance even in high-temperature environments, demonstrating India’s ability to deliver world-class railway technology.

Officials emphasized that the Marhowra plant’s success highlights the strength of public-private partnerships, innovation, and skill development in India, reinforcing the country’s role in the global railway supply chain.
