Air India, India’s flagship carrier, has officially begun operations on its first non-stop route between Delhi and Manila, marking a milestone in India-Philippines air connectivity. The inaugural flight departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on schedule today.
Inauguration Ceremony
The event was attended by H.E. Josel F. Ignacio, Ambassador of the Philippines to India, and Maria Cynthia P. Pelayo, Minister and Consul General at the Philippine Embassy. Air India was represented by P. Balaji, Group Head – Government, Risk, Compliance & Corporate Affairs, along with other senior officials from both the airline and the embassy.
Strengthening Southeast Asia Presence
With Manila added to its network, Air India now serves eight destinations across seven countries in Southeast Asia. The new route enhances non-stop connectivity for travellers between India and the Philippines and provides Filipino passengers seamless access to Air India’s network across Europe and North America via Delhi.
Aircraft and In-Flight Experience
Flights on this route are operated using Airbus A321LR aircraft, featuring a three-class configuration: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. Air India is among the few airlines in Southeast Asia to offer fully flat beds in Business Class on a single-aisle aircraft, ensuring a premium experience for travellers.
Promoting Tourism and Cultural Exchange
Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India, highlighted the strategic potential of the new route. He stated that these non-stop flights will promote tourism in the Philippines for Indian travellers and facilitate stronger trade and cultural exchanges, strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
