In a major operation code-named Namkhor, the Kochi Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate recently seized 36 luxury cars across Kerala. The raids were carried out with support from the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Kerala Police.

Bhutan Car Smuggling Network Under Scanner
According to officials, over 200 luxury cars were allegedly smuggled into Kerala from Bhutan by evading import duties. The modus operandi involved registering the vehicles in Himachal Pradesh before moving them to different parts of India and eventually changing their number plates.
Film Stars, Industrialists, Dealers Raided
Raids were conducted at around 30 locations, including the residences of actors Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj, and Amit Chakkalakal, as well as at premises linked to businessmen, dealers, and middlemen.
Was Dulquer Directly Involved?
Customs officials clarified that Dulquer Salmaan is not directly involved in the smuggling network. Reports suggest he, like others, may have unknowingly purchased cars without being aware of their dubious origin. His residence was searched as part of the investigation.
Vehicles Linked to Dulquer
Two vehicles connected to the actor, a Defender and a Prado, were identified by customs. One of them was taken in for inspection. Officials confirmed these were among four vehicles under scrutiny.
Registration Irregularities Found
Investigators discovered irregularities in vehicle records. For example, one 2014 model was listed on the MVD’s Parivahan portal as having its first owner in 2005, raising suspicions of forged documents. Authorities pointed out that even a careful buyer could have been misled by such false records.
Investigation Ongoing
The probe is still in its early stages. Dulquer Salmaan and other vehicle owners have been summoned to appear before Customs and produce relevant documents. Their statements will be recorded as part of the inquiry.
