A new chapter in Indian sports was officially written. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated what is now the nation’s largest and most advanced sports complex in the Naranpura area of Ahmedabad. Constructed at a cost of ₹825 crore, this sprawling facility is poised to become a central pillar in India’s journey to becoming a world-class sporting powerhouse.

India's largest sports complex Ahmedabad

Designed to meet and exceed international standards, the complex is a true marvel of modern infrastructure. It brings together top-tier aquatic facilities, state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor arenas, dedicated training centers, and comprehensive housing for athletes. This all-in-one design not only provides a perfect environment for training but also positions the complex as a strong contender for hosting high-profile global competitions in the near future.

The inauguration of this complex is more than just a local event; it is a powerful symbol of a national commitment. It plays a central role in India’s ambitious long-term goal of becoming a premier sporting nation by the year 2047. The project also reflects a significant increase in public investment in sports infrastructure, with the national sports budget having surged over the past decade. This rise in funding is a clear sign of a concerted effort to improve talent identification, provide scientific training, and build the world-class facilities needed to nurture a new generation of athletes.

With this new sports hub, Ahmedabad is rapidly being positioned as a major destination for international events. The city’s growing prominence in the sports world is seen as a crucial stepping stone toward securing future bids for prestigious competitions like the Commonwealth Games and, most notably, the 2036 Olympics. The Naranpura Sports Complex is not just a building; it is a statement of intent, signaling India’s readiness to compete on the global stage.
