Airbus is planning to establish a Research and Development Centre of Excellence at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya in Gujarat. The announcement was made during a meeting between Jürgen Westermeier, MD of Airbus, and Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw. Airbus is currently sourcing over $1 billion worth of components from more than 100 Indian suppliers.
Strengthening Digital and R&D Presence in India
The company’s Digital Centre in Bengaluru serves as a major hub for its digital transformation initiatives and is the second largest such centre after Airbus’ headquarters in Toulouse, France. In 2018, Airbus expanded its digital capabilities in India by establishing a Global Capability Centre (GCC) to support operations across all divisions worldwide.
Employment and Collaboration with Indian Institutes
Airbus employs more than 3,600 people across its Indian sites, including over 1,500 IT professionals delivering technology solutions to the business. The company also collaborates with leading Indian institutes on research and development projects.
