Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has highlighted some of India’s most ambitious engineering achievements, sharing images and videos of landmark projects that demonstrate the scale and speed of the country’s infrastructure growth.
Chenab Rail Bridge
The Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir is the world’s tallest railway arch bridge, standing 359 meters above the river—35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower. Built on the USBRL corridor, it enhances connectivity in one of the most challenging terrains of the Himalayas.
Pamban Bridge
The Pamban Bridge in Ramanathapuram district is India’s first vertical-lift railway sea bridge. Stretching 2.07 kilometers, it links Rameswaram Island with the mainland at Mandapam.
Bridge Taller Than Qutub Minar
On the Bairabi–Sairang rail line in Mizoram, Bridge No. 144 rises 114 meters—taller than Delhi’s Qutub Minar.
Anji Khad Bridge
The Anji Khad Bridge, spanning the Anji River, is India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, also part of the USBRL corridor.
Vande Bharat Express
The Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed train developed in India, designed for greater efficiency, speed, and passenger comfort.
Longest Railway Tunnel T-50
The T-50 tunnel on the USBRL corridor measures 12.77 km and was constructed using the Himalayan Tunnelling method to overcome difficult geological conditions.
Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link)
The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also called Atal Setu, is India’s longest sea bridge. Covering 21.8 km, it reduces travel time between Sewri and Nhava Sheva to about 20 minutes.
Atal Tunnel
The Atal Tunnel beneath Rohtang Pass is 9.02 km long and has been recognised by the World Book of Records as the longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet.
Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail project will cover 508 km at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Its design incorporates several advanced engineering features, making it one of India’s most ambitious transport projects.
