During Operation Sindoor, over 400 ISRO scientists worked around the clock to provide critical support for national security. The agency’s earth observation and communication satellites supplied vital data, ensuring that all mission requirements were met. ISRO Chairperson V Narayanan highlighted the seamless functioning of the satellites, saying they operated perfectly 24×7 throughout the operation.

Space Sector’s Role in Modern Defence
Operation Sindoor emphasized the growing importance of space technology in armed conflicts. The mission involved extensive use of drones and loitering munitions, while testing the effectiveness of air defence systems, including the indigenously developed Akash Teer missile system.
Progress on Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight
ISRO is advancing steadily on its Gaganyaan project, which aims to achieve India’s first human spaceflight by 2027. So far, 7,700 ground tests have been completed, with an additional 2,300 planned before the crewed missions.
Upcoming Uncrewed and Crewed Missions
As part of the Gaganyaan program, ISRO intends to launch three uncrewed missions, with the first expected in December this year. The agency has also secured approvals for two crewed missions, marking a major step toward India’s maiden human spaceflight.
ISRO’s Leadership Across Missions
From Chandrayaan to Mangalyaan, ISRO continues to excel in multiple domains of space technology. The organization’s efforts in earth observation, communication, and human spaceflight underscore India’s growing capabilities in space exploration.
