India is preparing to boost its rice exports to the Philippines, the world’s largest importer of the staple. To seize the opportunity, a delegation of leading Indian exporters will visit the Southeast Asian country in early September, a senior commerce ministry official confirmed.

Untapped Potential in Rice Trade
The Philippines imported $2.52 billion worth of rice in 2024, yet India’s share was just $48.91 million, despite being the world’s largest rice exporter with shipments worth $11.83 billion in 2024–25. Officials see this gap as a significant untapped opportunity for Indian exporters.
Broader Agricultural Trade Links
In 2024, the Philippines imported $20 billion in agricultural products. India’s exports accounted for only 2 percent of that, at $413 million. Major Indian exports included bovine meat, groundnut, rice, and tobacco. The new delegation will not only push rice but also explore demand for onions, potatoes, groundnuts, and meat.
Strengthening Ties Through Trade Fairs
To deepen connections, Philippine food importers will participate in World Food India (September 25–28) and the International Rice Conference (October 30–31, 2025). The latter is set to be the largest rice-focused trade fair ever held in India.
CIS Region Also Expanding
Beyond Southeast Asia, India’s agri-exports are also growing in the CIS region. Exports to CIS countries rose from $480 million in 2023–24 to $628 million in 2024–25. Russia remains a key partner in this growth.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has been active at major international events, including World Food Moscow, to showcase Indian produce. These platforms help exporters build networks, strike partnerships, and expand their footprint across new markets.
