Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru laid the foundation stone for a ₹69.20-crore biogas plant at the Vellalore dump yard. The plant will process 250 tonnes of biodegradable waste daily and is aimed at promoting eco-friendly waste management in Coimbatore.

Inspection of Semmozhi Poonga Project
The minister inspected progress on the ₹167.25-crore Semmozhi Poonga eco-park, being developed across 45 acres at the Central Prison site in Gandhipuram. He said the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner had requested an additional ₹50 crore to complete the project. “With the chief minister’s approval, the funds will be released so the project can be finished on time,” Nehru told reporters.
Sports Infrastructure Development
At RS Puram Corporation Higher Secondary School, Nehru visited the site of a new international-standard hockey turf. The ₹9.67-crore project is being built across 7.02 acres and is expected to boost sports infrastructure in the city.
Water and Sanitation Projects
The minister also reviewed work on a sewage treatment plant and garbage transfer station at Kavundampalayam. He assessed progress on the ₹591.14-crore Kurichi–Kuniyamuthur drinking water and underground drainage project, which is aimed at improving civic amenities for residents.
Renovation of Ukkadam Bus Stand
Nehru laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Ukkadam bus stand at an estimated cost of ₹21.55 crore. He instructed officials to speed up execution so the project can be completed without delays.
