In a major update for its users, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has officially discontinued its popular 1GB/day data plan, which was earlier priced at ₹249 for 28 days. The most affordable daily data plan now begins with a 1.5GB/day option, as seen on Jio’s official website. This move nudges users toward higher-priced data offerings.

Jio discontinues 1GB data plan

Despite the price-conscious plan being removed, Jio continued its strong performance in the telecom sector. According to TRAI data, Jio added 1.9 million new subscribers in June 2025, the highest among all telecom providers. Airtel followed with a gain of 763,482 users, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL lost 217,816 and 305,766 users, respectively.

As of June, India’s total wireless user base rose to 1,163 million, with Jio leading in both total and active subscribers. Jio had 464.46 million active users, representing 97.37% of its base. Airtel had 388.04 million active users (99.24%), while Vi and BSNL saw their active user percentages dip to 84.54% and 63.12%, respectively.

Jio’s shift away from entry-level packs signals a focus on premium data consumption, aligning with its strategy to maximize ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), even as it retains its lead in subscriber additions.
