Mahindra to acquire land for future expansion

Mahindra Eyes 350-Acre Land Parcel in Igatpuri for Expansion

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is exploring a major land acquisition in Igatpuri, Maharashtra, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem. The auto giant has submitted an expression of interest to acquire 350 acres of land, which could serve as a feeder facility to support its existing plants in Nashik and Igatpuri.

Strategic Expansion Plans

According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO – Auto & Farm Sectors at M&M, the proposed land will enable the company to create additional infrastructure such as a supplier park or allied facilities, ensuring greater operational synergy across its key manufacturing hubs in the region.

Mahindra Igatpuri Land Acquisition

“The expression of interest has been submitted. We still need to go through the process of regulatory and internal approvals, but the intent is aligned with our broader ecosystem strategy,” Jejurikar confirmed.

Boosting Manufacturing Capacity

The Igatpuri land proposal comes alongside Mahindra’s aggressive production scale-up. At its Chakan plant, the company is expanding capacity by 2.4 lakh units in the first phase this year, which will take total capacity to approximately 7.5–7.6 lakh units annually.

Looking beyond FY27, Mahindra is also evaluating greenfield locations for new facilities to cater to rising demand and strengthen its long-term growth trajectory.

Major Investment Commitment

Mahindra has already earmarked ₹27,000 crore in investments for its automotive business between FY25 and FY27. These funds will fuel not only capacity expansion but also product innovation, EV development, and digital transformation initiatives.

While the Igatpuri acquisition is still at a preliminary stage, it highlights Mahindra’s intent to reinforce its manufacturing base in Maharashtra while preparing for the future of mobility. With strong demand across SUVs, EVs, and farm equipment, the company’s latest expansion plans reflect its ambition to remain at the forefront of India’s auto sector.
