The Kerala Fibre Optic Network (K-FON) project has seen a rapid increase in connections to homes, government offices, and commercial establishments in the district, with 7,637 connections now active. To support the rollout, over 3,000 km of optical fibre cable has been laid, including 136 km of optical ground wire routed through KSEB transmission towers and 3,427 km of all-dielectric self-supporting cable installed via KSEB poles.
Government Offices Fully Integrated
As part of Kerala’s digital mission, 2,702 government offices in the district are now connected to K-FON. The Secretariat has been using the network for more than 18 months, and the legislative assembly joined in June 2024. Key institutions under the National Health Mission, Technopark, Kerala Startup Mission, all district collectorates, the city corporation, and agencies like ICT Academy, Anert, IKM, KSRTC, KSIDC, and the State Data Centre are now linked.
Reaching Remote Communities
Under the ‘Connecting the Unconnected’ initiative, 103 homes in the Chonampara and Vallippara tribal settlements in Kottur have been given internet access. Additionally, 867 below-poverty-line households have received K-FON connections either free or at subsidised rates.
Commercial and Enterprise Uptake
So far, 3,961 commercial connections have been provided with the help of 218 local network operators partnering with K-FON. The project has also delivered 53 internet leased line (ILL) connections and 41 SME connections, offering businesses reliable, high-speed internet to support their operations.
How to Apply
Residents can request a connection through the ‘Ente K-FON’ mobile app, via the official website, or by calling the toll-free number 1800 570 4466.
