Indian Railways has achieved a historic milestone by operating its longest freight train to date, named Rudrastra, as part of an experimental run aimed at redefining freight efficiency in the country.
A Record-Breaking 4.5 Kilometres
Rudrastra stretched an impressive 4.5 kilometres, making it a standout feat in rail transport. The train consisted of 354 wagons, six rakes, and seven engines, covering a 200-kilometre route from Ganjkhwaja to Garhwa Road station under the East Central Railway’s DDU Division, passing through Dhanbad.
Celebrations and Official Recognition
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the accomplishment on X, posting a video and noting, “Rudrastra – Bharat’s longest freight train (4.5 km long).”
The East Central Railway described it as a “new milestone” in freight movement, praising the achievement as a major step toward improved logistics.
