Bajaj Auto is stepping into the electric rickshaw market with a new brand called Riki. The company will launch sales on August 10, starting in four markets, with a phased expansion planned over the next few quarters.
Production Already Underway
Production of the Riki e-rickshaw has already begun. Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj confirmed in an exclusive CNBC-TV18 interview that the rollout will follow a gradual approach, similar to the strategy used for Bajaj’s earlier electric three-wheeler, the Gogo.

Focus on Product Perfection Before Scaling
Bajaj emphasised that the company will wait a quarter or two before ramping up production. The aim is to ensure the product meets quality expectations in every aspect — from technology to customer service.
Building on EV Experience
Bajaj Auto is still refining its expertise in electric mobility. “We are making our way up the learning curve in all respects — technology, product, and customer service — as far as electric technology is concerned,” Bajaj said.
Following the Gogo’s Success
The launch of Riki comes after the strong market performance of Bajaj’s Gogo model, which emerged as a leader in the electric three-wheeler category. This track record gives the company confidence as it enters the competitive e-rickshaw segment.
