The Calcutta High Court has directed Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay ₹4 lakh per month as alimony to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter. The order came after Jahan appealed against a 2023 District Court decision that had fixed a lower amount—₹50,000 for her and ₹80,000 for their daughter.
Justice Ajay Kumar Mukherjee stated that a total of ₹4 lakh per month—₹1.5 lakh for Hasin Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter—is fair and necessary to ensure financial stability during the ongoing legal proceedings.
Hasin Jahan Criticizes the Amount
Following the court’s order, Hasin Jahan expressed dissatisfaction, claiming the amount is insufficient when compared to Shami’s income and lifestyle. She remarked, “The amount should reflect his earnings and social standing. As per Supreme Court guidelines, a wife and children should receive the same lifestyle as the husband.”
She further added that the original demand of ₹10 lakh was made over seven years ago, and given inflation, a revision will be sought.
Accusations Against Shami Continue
Hasin Jahan also criticized Shami’s alleged lack of involvement with his family. “He has not contacted us. The last time he met his daughter was due to court pressure,” she said, also accusing him of arrogance after achieving fame.
The couple has been embroiled in a legal battle for several years. Jahan has previously accused Shami of domestic abuse, infidelity, and mental harassment.
Court Leaves Room for Additional Support
The High Court also mentioned that Shami is free to offer extra financial assistance for his daughter’s education and reasonable needs, beyond the ₹2.5 lakh fixed monthly.
This legal order adds a new chapter to the long-standing dispute between the cricketer and his wife, while also emphasizing the importance of financial responsibility during separation proceedings.
