The Union government has approved 19 major road and tunnel infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir with a total investment of ₹10,637 crore. These projects aim to significantly improve road connectivity, especially in remote and border areas, and ensure year-round accessibility.
Total 296 km of Road Network
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has cleared these infrastructure projects, covering a total length of 296 kilometres across Jammu and Kashmir.
Key Tunnel Projects
Among the approved developments are two large-scale tunnel projects:
- Peer-Ki-Gali Tunnel (₹3,830 crore): This tunnel will offer improved connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, especially during harsh winters.
- Sadhana Tunnel (₹3,330 crore): It will ensure all-weather access to Karnah in the Kupwara district, a region often cut off during heavy snowfall.

Other Notable Projects
Additional approved works include:
- Zaznar–Shopian Road Section – ₹852 crore
- Lal Chowk–Parimpora Four-Lane Flyover – ₹700 crore
- Trehgam–Chamkote Road Section – ₹966 crore
- Magam Flyover (Narbal–Gulmarg Route) – ₹445 crore
- Qazigund Bypass – ₹95 crore
- Two-Lane Bridge over Rambiara, Shopian – ₹71 crore
