The grounded British F-35B Lightning fighter jet at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has been successfully moved by a UK engineering team using specialised equipment brought from the United Kingdom. The operation was carried out with high precision as part of efforts to repair and retrieve the advanced jet.

Arrival of British Team with Transport Aircraft
A team of technical experts arrived on Sunday aboard a British Royal Air Force Airbus A400M Atlas, carrying custom tools and machinery required for the complex movement of the stealth fighter. This marked the start of the jet’s physical relocation process.
Jet Towed to MRO Facility
The F-35B was carefully towed from its initial parking spot to the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the airport. The movement was executed under strict safety protocols, with support from Indian airport personnel and coordination between UK and local authorities.
Special Tools Used for Movement
According to officials, the team used equipment specifically designed for the F-35’s structure and weight distribution. This included towing gear and stabilising kits to ensure the jet could be moved without causing further damage or triggering onboard safety systems.
UK Thanks India for Support
The British High Commission acknowledged the smooth cooperation from Indian officials and airport teams throughout the operation. With the jet now stationed at the MRO, repair work is expected to begin soon as the UK prepares to take the aircraft back.
Background of Emergency Landing
The F-35B, considered among the world’s most advanced and expensive fighter jets, made an emergency landing on June 14 due to a technical issue. It had remained grounded at the airport for nearly a month before this relocation.
