A 10-year-old boy in Dubai, identified as A.A., took a courageous step to end ongoing abuse by using the Dubai Police smart app to report his father for repeated physical violence. Despite suffering for months in silence, unsure of why he was being targeted while his younger siblings were not, the boy reached out through one of the UAE’s confidential digital reporting platforms. His brave action has brought public attention to the tools available to protect children facing abuse.

School Observations Lead to Action
The first signs of trouble appeared at school, where teachers noticed A.A. falling behind academically and showing physical signs of harm. A school social worker gradually gained the boy’s trust, encouraging him to speak up. With their support, A.A. was able to file a report using the Dubai Police app. Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ali Al Matrooshi, Director of the Child and Women Protection Department, noted the critical role schools play in spotting abuse and supporting victims. “The bruises on his body and fear on his face said more than words ever could,” he said.

Father Questioned After Abuse Report
Dubai Police responded quickly to the complaint, summoning A.A.’s father for questioning. During the investigation, the father admitted to using physical punishment but claimed it was a form of strict discipline, similar to how he was raised. However, officials firmly reminded him that such actions are both harmful and illegal under UAE law. “He believed he was toughening up his child, but in reality, it isolated him and affected his education,” said Dr. Al Matrooshi. The father expressed remorse and promised to follow non-violent parenting methods.

Legal Framework and Support Services
The case was handled under the UAE’s Wadeema Law, which guarantees the rights and safety of children. Dubai Police made it clear that corporal punishment is a punishable offense and will not be tolerated. A.A. will now receive counseling and support through social services. Authorities have confirmed that his condition will be monitored closely.

Dubai Police Emphasize Protection and Awareness
Dubai Police have reiterated their commitment to child protection, urging citizens to report any signs of abuse. Dr. Al Matrooshi stated, “We are here to protect children, listen to them, and help families heal.” People can report abuse through the Dubai Police app, website, or hotline (901), or visit the Child Oasis Center at Al Twar police station for direct assistance.

This case is a reminder that technology and community awareness can play a vital role in rescuing children from abusive environments and ensuring their safety and well-being.
