Indian industrialist and automobile collector Yohan Poonawalla’s 1949 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith ‘Mysore’ won the ‘Overall Best in Show’ title at the Valletta Concours 2025, held at St. George’s Square in Malta. Poonawalla described the recognition as a proud moment that highlights the beauty and legacy of Indian motoring heritage.
A Royal Connection to Indian History
The Silver Wraith ‘Mysore’ was originally built for the Maharaja of Mysore by the renowned coachbuilders James Young/Gurney Nutting. The car, painted in carnation red with red and grey leather interiors, retains royal features such as silverware, a solid silver Coat of Arms, and illuminated royal plaques. It has also carried dignitaries like the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales during their visits to India.

Recognition of Heritage and Craftsmanship
Poonawalla, who is the only Indian in the global list of the ‘Top 100 Classic Car Collectors’, has previously been awarded titles like ‘Classic Car Ambassador of the Year’ and the ‘Vanguard of India Legacy Excellency Award’. He expressed that winning in Malta underscores his mission to preserve automotive history and showcase India’s royal motoring culture.
Restoration as a Passion Project
Calling the car a “symbol of elegance and refinement”, Poonawalla emphasized the meticulous effort that went into restoring the Silver Wraith. He sees the car not just as a collector’s item, but as a cultural artifact reflecting India’s regal past. “Restoring it to its former glory was a labour of love,” he said.
