Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the 51st G7 Summit held in Kananaskis, Canada. Both leaders expressed mutual interest in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Italy. PM Modi shared his optimism about deeper cooperation that would benefit both countries.
#Melodi Trend Continues on Social Media
The friendly interaction between PM Modi and PM Meloni once again attracted attention on social media. A video from the summit showed them greeting each other warmly and sharing a brief conversation. Their rapport has gained popularity under the trending hashtag #Melodi, a blend of their names.
This is not the first time their camaraderie has gone viral. During the COP28 summit in Dubai, Meloni had shared a selfie with Modi on social media, captioning it: “Good friends at COP28, #Melodi.”

PM Modi at G7: Focus on Global South and Key Issues
PM Modi arrived at the G7 venue — the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge — earlier in the day and was received by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This is Modi’s sixth consecutive G7 participation and his first visit to Canada in ten years.
He received a ceremonial welcome at Calgary Airport, where India’s acting high commissioner Chinmoy Naik was also present.
PM Modi said he will use the summit to discuss global challenges and highlight the needs and priorities of the Global South. His engagements will include meetings with various world leaders and participation in discussions on energy security, technology, and investments.
Part of a Three-Nation Tour
This visit to Canada is part of PM Modi’s official tour of three countries. The trip began with Cyprus and will conclude in Croatia. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that PM Modi will participate in G7 sessions on energy diversification, infrastructure, and affordability in a rapidly changing global environment.
