As Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla gears up to become India’s second astronaut in space via the upcoming Axiom-4 mission, former UAE astronaut Hazzaa AlMansoori has expressed full confidence in Shukla’s capabilities. AlMansoori, who trained alongside Shukla in Houston, recalled their shared sessions and praised his professionalism and humility, noting, “Shux is down to earth and fully prepared to pilot the Dragon vehicle.”

Confidence in Handling Critical Scenarios
Both Shukla and AlMansoori share a background as fighter pilots, and their training involved simulations of emergencies aboard the International Space Station (ISS), including fires, toxic leaks, and depressurisation events. According to AlMansoori, Shukla showed excellent preparedness and teamwork in these high-risk scenarios.
Message of Encouragement and Support
AlMansoori offered an encouraging message for Shukla ahead of his mission, urging him to enjoy the rare experience of being in space and to capture memories for the world. “Only a few people get to float in space. Make sure to take photos — for yourself, your family, and the world,” he said.
Post-Mission Invitation and Assurance to India
AlMansoori also invited Shukla to visit the UAE after his return, where astronauts often share their space experiences with students and the public. Addressing safety concerns, he reassured Indian audiences that the Falcon 9 launch vehicle is proven to be reliable and handled by a professional SpaceX team.
A Moment of National Pride
He encouraged Indians to support and celebrate the mission, adding, “You are part of it. Wish him luck and enjoy what he shares from space. You will see it in his eyes — the wonder of space.”
