As summer temperatures rise, many travelers seek relief in the cool, green hills of South India. While popular destinations like Ooty and Kodaikanal remain favorites, several lesser-known hill stations provide equally stunning views and peaceful environments away from the crowds.

Yercaud, Tamil Nadu

Located in the Shevaroys Range, Yercaud is famous for its coffee plantations and orange groves. The mist-covered hills offer a calm retreat with scenic spots such as Yercaud Lake and Lady’s Seat, which is known for its beautiful sunsets.

Kudremukh, Karnataka

Kudremukh, meaning ‘Horse Face,’ is known for its rich biodiversity and lush mountains. It is popular among trekkers due to its grasslands, waterfalls, and tranquil hiking trails, combining adventure with relaxation.

Agumbe, Karnataka

Known as the “Cherrapunji of the South,” Agumbe is one of India’s wettest areas. It boasts vibrant rainforests, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking sunsets. Visitors often enjoy birdwatching, trekking, and the famous Sunset Viewpoint.

Nandi Hills, Karnataka

A short drive from Bengaluru, Nandi Hills is a convenient getaway offering panoramic views and the ancient Nandi Temple. The cool morning air makes it a great escape from the city heat.

Munnar, Kerala

Though Munnar is well-known, its quieter areas like the Kolukkumalai tea estates often go unnoticed. The region features beautiful waterfalls and the rare Neelakurinji flowers, which bloom every twelve years.

Vythiri, Kerala

Situated in Wayanad, Vythiri is famous for eco-tourism. Surrounded by forests, it offers activities like bamboo rafting, trekking to waterfalls, and visits to spice plantations for nature lovers.

Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu

Kotagiri, one of the oldest hill stations in the Nilgiris, is quieter compared to its neighbors. It provides peaceful surroundings with tea gardens and forests, ideal for nature walks and birdwatching.

Belgaum, Karnataka

Located in the Western Ghats, Belgaum has a pleasant climate year-round. It features historic forts, temples, and hills that offer excellent trekking and adventure opportunities.

Mollenguda, Andhra Pradesh

Hidden in the Araku Valley, Mollenguda is a tranquil hill station dotted with tribal villages. Visitors can enjoy hiking and explore the natural beauty while experiencing local culture.

This summer, explore beyond the usual tourist spots in South India. These lesser-known hill stations offer a refreshing mix of natural beauty, adventure, and culture—perfect for escaping the heat and rejuvenating the mind and body.
