Schaeffler India Limited has opened its fifth manufacturing facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu. The new 16,500 sq. m. plant will produce powertrain components, including those for hybrid systems like planetary gears and hybrid transmission parts. It marks a major step in Schaeffler’s growth in India.

Focus on Indian Market and Global Supply
The facility is part of a broader 108,000 sq. m. land development, with full-scale production expected by Q4 2025. It will primarily serve the Indian automotive sector but will also contribute to Schaeffler’s global operations.
Top-Level Presence at Inauguration
The inauguration was attended by Georg F.W. Schaeffler, Chairman of Schaeffler AG, along with other key executives such as Matthias Zink and Harsha Kadam, reflecting the importance of the facility to the company’s long-term plans.
Investment Exceeds Initial Targets
From 2022 to 2024, Schaeffler India invested ₹1,700 crore—exceeding its original ₹1,500 crore plan. These investments supported new developments in powertrain systems, electric mobility, and industrial bearings.
Built for Sustainability
The new plant includes sustainable features like rainwater harvesting, zero liquid discharge systems, LED lighting, and battery-powered material handling. This aligns with the global sustainability goals of the Schaeffler Group and supports India’s manufacturing initiatives.
Part of a Larger Indian Footprint
Schaeffler India already operates plants in Pune, Savli, Maneja, and Hosur, plus three R&D centers. The company employs over 3,700 people and has been active in India for more than 60 years.
Parent Company’s Global Reach
The German-based Schaeffler Group has a presence in 55 countries and around 120,000 employees. It focuses on motion technology and is heavily investing in electric mobility and green transport systems.
Strengthening Digital and Market Presence
In 2023, Schaeffler India acquired Koovers, a B2B e-commerce platform for the automotive aftermarket, expanding its digital reach in India.
Aligning with India’s Auto Evolution
The Shoolagiri facility is a part of Schaeffler’s strategy to meet India’s rising automotive demand, particularly in electric and hybrid technologies. India remains a vital market in Schaeffler’s global growth strategy.
