Nissan, present in India since 1965 when it licensed the iconic Jonga for the Indian Army, has confirmed it will remain active in the Indian market. Despite divesting its stake in the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, the company is preparing to launch two new models within the next year.

Two New Models Planned
Nissan Motor India Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa announced that the company will introduce a 7-seater B-segment MPV by early 2026, similar in category to the Renault Triber. Following that, a C-segment SUV, likely based on the next-generation Renault Duster, is expected by mid-2026. A 7-seater version of this SUV is planned for early 2027, with a fully electric variant to join the lineup later.
No Diesel Models Ahead
Nissan stated that it has no intention to introduce diesel models in India going forward. Rising costs due to upcoming BS-7 emission norms make diesel vehicles in the B and C segments financially unviable for customers.
Production and Sales Targets Remain Strong
Despite the stake sale in the Chennai facility, Nissan reassured that production capacity and plans are secure through a robust agreement with Renault. The company targets domestic sales of over 100,000 units and exports of another 100,000 units from India by the financial year 2026–27.
