At the Rising Northeast Investors Summit held in New Delhi, top Indian business groups announced major investment commitments to boost infrastructure, digital connectivity, and clean energy in the Northeastern region. The event, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw Reliance Industries, Adani Group, and Vedanta Group pledge a combined investment of over ₹2 lakh crore, signalling strong private sector interest in the region’s development.

Reliance to Invest ₹75,000 Crore in Five Years

Reliance Industries has committed ₹75,000 crore over the next five years for development projects in the Northeast. Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced this at the summit, highlighting Reliance Jio’s aim to expand digital connectivity. Jio already covers 90% of the region’s population and has over 5 million 5G subscribers. The company plans to double this number by year-end and introduce Artificial Intelligence in schools, hospitals, businesses, and homes.

Adani Group Plans ₹50,000 Crore Investment Over 10 Years

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani revealed plans to invest ₹50,000 crore across the Northeast over the next decade. This is in addition to the ₹50,000 crore investment pledged earlier this year in Assam. The focus areas include green energy projects like hydro power and smart meters, infrastructure development, digital connectivity, and skill-building initiatives.

Vedanta Expands Investment to ₹80,000 Crore

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal announced a further ₹30,000 crore investment across Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. This adds to the ₹50,000 crore previously committed in Assam, bringing Vedanta’s total investment in the region to ₹80,000 crore. Agarwal noted that Northeast states are currently achieving double-digit economic growth.

Government Pushes Clean Energy with MoUs and Budget Allocation

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi stated that 115 MoUs worth ₹38,856 crore have been signed between private investors and state governments for renewable energy development. Additionally, the Ministry has allocated 10% of its annual budget for clean energy schemes specifically for the North Eastern Region.
