Kerala’s Cochin International Airport is set to strengthen its security with the introduction of an advanced threat detection system as part of the Rs 2,000 million CIAL 2.0 digital transformation project. This initiative aims to enhance airport safety by integrating artificial intelligence, automation, and robust cybersecurity measures.

Cyber Defence Operations Centre to Detect Threats
A key feature of CIAL 2.0 is the new Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC), India’s first dedicated on-premises cybersecurity facility at an airport. Supported by CDAC, CDOC offers real-time monitoring and rapid response to cyber threats such as hacking, malware, and ransomware. This centre will act as a digital shield protecting the airport’s IT infrastructure against increasing cyberattacks.

AI Surveillance and Automation for Enhanced Safety
CIAL 2.0 also introduces a state-of-the-art AI-driven surveillance network with over 4,000 smart cameras monitoring terminals and sensitive areas. These cameras use deep learning for behavior analysis and quick threat detection, significantly improving passenger and staff safety. Automation features, such as the Automated Tray Retrieval System, will speed up security screening and reduce manual handling.

Next-Generation Security Tools
The airport will deploy modern security equipment, including liquid explosive detectors, portable X-rays, and Threat Containment Vessels to safely handle dangerous materials. The upgraded infrastructure also includes enhanced flight information systems and flexible passenger processing counters.

Focus on Passenger Convenience and Safety
Along with security enhancements, the project introduces smart passenger services like facial recognition check-in and AI-based baggage tracking, making travel smoother and safer.Setting a National Benchmark
With CIAL 2.0, Cochin Airport is positioning itself as a leader in airport security and digital innovation in India, setting new standards for cybersecurity and passenger experience across the aviation sector.
