Adani Defence & Aerospace has formed a strategic partnership with Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, a US subsidiary of Elbit Systems, to enhance India’s undersea warfare strength. This collaboration enables India’s private sector to locally produce sonobuoys—key electronic devices used for detecting and tracking submarines.
The agreement focuses on assembling and eventually manufacturing advanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems within India. This move reduces India’s dependence on foreign imports and supports government initiatives like ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ by developing indigenous defense technology in a crucial strategic area.

Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, emphasized the importance of this development amid a volatile maritime environment. He highlighted the need for India to have integrated, mission-ready intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and ASW capabilities that are developed locally and competitive globally. He described the initiative as part of Adani Group’s vision to empower Indian armed forces with advanced, domestically developed technology.
Sonobuoys play a vital role in underwater surveillance by helping naval forces monitor enemy submarines and safeguard carrier strike groups. They also contribute to broader ISR operations.
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, noted that India has long relied on imports for such technology. The partnership aims to build self-reliant capabilities by integrating advanced sonobuoy technology into India’s defense ecosystem.
Donnelly Bohan, President and CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs, added that the collaboration will localize assembly processes, develop high-tech skills, and provide reliable ASW solutions customized for the Indian Navy’s requirements.
