Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, at the age of 92, continues to lead by example, working every day and maintaining a schedule that reflects his dedication to healthcare. As the founder of Apollo Hospitals, he remains one of India’s most influential healthcare leaders, inspiring generations with his unwavering commitment.

A Lifelong Dedication to Healthcare

Despite being well past retirement age, Dr. Reddy works diligently every day, starting his day at 10 a.m. and finishing by 5 p.m. six days a week. His energy and dedication defy age, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to providing better healthcare for the people of India.

Revolutionizing India’s Healthcare System

Dr. Reddy’s journey began with his vision to make high-quality healthcare accessible to all in India. Apollo Hospitals, which he founded, was the country’s first corporate hospital. His foresight in establishing a hospital system that could provide advanced treatment within India has made it a reality for millions of people, ending the need for many to seek medical care abroad.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Vision

Born in Chennai and trained as a cardiologist in the U.S., Dr. Reddy could have easily built a successful career overseas. However, a letter from his father urging him to return to India in the 1970s changed the course of his life. He returned to India, motivated to make a difference in his homeland.

A Personal Tragedy that Changed Everything

A defining moment in Dr. Reddy’s life came in 1979 when a patient died due to the lack of advanced medical facilities in India. This tragedy deeply affected him and inspired him to establish Apollo Hospitals, with the promise of providing world-class healthcare to Indians and preventing such losses in the future.

Building an Empire: From One Hospital to 71

What started as a single hospital soon grew into a massive healthcare network. Today, Apollo Hospitals operates 71 hospitals, over 5,000 pharmacies, 291 clinics, a diagnostic network, and a digital health platform. Apollo has become a trusted name in healthcare across India, with plans for further expansion.

A Financial Powerhouse

Apollo Hospitals is not just a healthcare leader but also a financial giant. The company boasts a market capitalization of over ₹70,000 crore. The Reddy family, with a 29.3% stake, remains deeply involved in its success, showing their long-term commitment to the organization’s mission.

Wealth with Purpose

Dr. Reddy’s net worth, as estimated by Forbes, is ₹26,560 crore. Despite his massive wealth, his focus has always been on service rather than personal gain. His financial success is the byproduct of his dedication to improving India’s healthcare system.

A Legacy of Service and Humility

Dr. Reddy’s life is a testament to the power of purpose-driven leadership. In a past interview, he mentioned, “Success should make us humble and inspire us to do more for the country.” At 92, he still lives by this philosophy, continuing to lead with integrity and inspire others with his life’s work. His story serves as a powerful reminder that true success is measured by the impact one makes, not just by financial achievements.
