Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is set to launch a major digital transformation initiative called CIAL 2.0 on May 19. This Rs 200 crore project aims to modernize airport operations and enhance the passenger experience through advanced technology.

Inauguration and Vision
The launch will be led by Kerala Chief Minister and CIAL chairman Pinarayi Vijayan at the CIAL Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre. The initiative is part of a broader plan to strengthen the airport’s digital systems, improve operational efficiency, and increase security.
Cybersecurity and AI Enhancements
A key highlight of the upgrade is the introduction of the Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC), India’s first full-scale on-site server facility dedicated to airport cybersecurity. Supported by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), CDOC offers 24/7 threat monitoring and rapid response to cyber risks.
New Technologies for Passenger Safety and Convenience
CIAL 2.0 also includes advanced AI-powered surveillance with over 4,000 smart cameras, full-body scanners, and automated tray retrieval systems to speed up security checks. The airport will add high-tech tools like liquid explosive detectors, portable X-ray scanners, and containment vessels for enhanced safety.
Upgraded Core Systems and Passenger Services
Behind the scenes, CIAL’s operational database and flight information systems are being overhauled, along with a new data centre using hyper-converged infrastructure. Passengers will benefit from facial recognition check-ins, AI-based baggage tracking, barcoded boarding passes, pre-paid taxi kiosks, and smoother boarding through DigiYatra integration.Aero Digital Summit to Follow Launch
After the launch, CIAL will host the Aero Digital Summit at the same venue from afternoon to evening. The event will conclude with a panel discussion focusing on future technology and innovation in the airport industry.
