The Met Gala 2025 saw not only fashion-forward A-listers but also an exceptional touch of Indian craftsmanship underfoot. Kerala-based design house Neytt by Extraweave, known for its rich legacy, supplied the iconic carpet for the prestigious event for the third time, continuing its strong association with global fashion.
The Met Gala 2025 Carpet: A Work of Art
This year’s carpet, measuring 63,000 square feet, was crafted from biodegradable sisal fibers ethically sourced from Madagascar. The royal blue base, accented with golden daffodils and floral barricades, created a stunning visual harmony, perfectly complementing the “Tailored for You” theme. The carpet’s design evoked a garden effect, blending aesthetics with sustainability—a hallmark of Neytt’s artistry.
Neytt’s Legacy and Craftsmanship
Founded by Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas, Neytt by Extraweave continues a legacy that traces back to 1917. Sivan’s grandfather, K. Velayudhan, founded Travancore Mats and Matting, which laid the foundation for Extraweave’s expansion into a global luxury rug brand. The company’s commitment to quality and sustainability is evident in its use of natural materials like silk, sisal, seagrass, and recycled PET.

A Sustainable Touch on Fashion’s Biggest Night
The carpet for the Met Gala was not just a visual delight but also a nod to sustainability, made using eco-friendly materials. By incorporating biodegradable fibers and drawing from Kerala’s tradition of coir production, Neytt’s contribution went beyond luxury to embrace environmental consciousness.
Global Reach and Collaborations
Neytt has become a significant name in the world of luxury interiors, with clientele that includes Pottery Barn, Ralph Lauren Home, and IKEA. Their collaborations with global designers and commitment to producing limited-edition rugs highlight their continuous innovation in combining artistry with sustainability.
